The Arizona Department of Health Services is reporting that they’re monitoring an Arizona resident who had been aboard the ship tied to three recent fatalities. The Arizona resident is reportedly not symptomatic of the hantavirus, the agency said.
Other U.S. residents who had been aboard the ship and have since returned home are also being monitored, according to the New York Times.
Hantavirus typically spreads by inhaling contaminated rodent droppings.
In the summer of 2024, Coconino County reported two fatalities associated with the hantavirus.

The first hantavirus case tied to one of the ship’s passengers was confirmed on May 2 through lab testing and the World Health Organization announced it was investigating a suspected outbreak the following day, according to the Associated Press.
Since April 11, three deaths have been confirmed and five others have shown signs of the illness.
The many passengers still aboard the ship are from more than a dozen countries.
